12 Reasons Laughter Is Good for Your Business or Career

Laughter is good for businessAre you looking for a way to grow your business or career? If you are, I have a suggestion, laugh more and encourage it at your work place. Yep, laughter to the rescue!!  You may think it’s incompatible with business but it’s not. I love and enjoy laughing. In fact a favorite pastime of mine is to watch funny movies and comedy shows. A lot of the physical and emotional benefits of laughing can also have a positive effect on your business or career.

Some of these benefits include;

  • Laughter makes customers loosen their guard. If you are trying to close a sale or make your customers relax. Try to get them to laugh. A lot of public speakers or preachers tell a joke or relate a funny incident before they start and this relaxes the audience and makes them more receptive to what they have to say.
  • It calms you down and clears your head so you can be more productive.
  • Laughter creates a more relaxed/positive work atmosphere which in turn promotes creativity and productivity
  • Laughing relieves stress, so you don’t get overwhelmed.
  • It helps you bond with other people thereby improving relationships.
  • Laughter improves your health
  • It can motivate employees and build loyalty
  • It makes you more approachable and easier for people to work with.
  • Laughter in your promotions can draw more attention to your products/services
  • It makes work more enjoyable
  • Customers love to see that you enjoy what you do. When they notice that you and your employees are happier, they’ll want to be around you more. It makes customers happy and that will most likely result in them spending more money. Wouldn’t you like that?
  • Humor diffuses conflict and people are more willing to reach a compromise.

Try it today. When you are in a tight corner, take some few minutes to laugh. Don’t take yourself too seriously. To enjoy the benefits of laughter, you need to be able to see the humor in situations and be able to confidently express it.

However as with most things in life, moderation is key. Don’t overuse it. If you put yourself down a lot in order to make people laugh, it can backfire. You don’t want to lose the respect of your employees, customers, colleagues or business associates. Also, don’t laugh at the expense of other people. Laugh with people and not at them. Don’t use it as a weapon. Keep it appropriate. Finally, know when serious work takes precedence over fun.

So go ahead and laugh today. Don’t be afraid. It is good for your business and career.
