6 Habits To Change In The Coming Months

Inspiration

The first six months of the year have gone by. We have now entered into the second half of the year. We have huge expectations for the remaining months – it’s going to be filled with blessings; you will accomplish more etc. Having this optimism and positive expectation is good, in fact it is something everyone should imbibe but more importantly you should reflect on the past six months. Think about your habits.

Simply put, habits are “behavioral patterns acquired by frequent repetition which are especially difficult to stop” Your habits determine your character which in turn influence the outcome of your life. Do you have any bad habits that need to be replaced? Certain habits that are holding you back? Before you say “I don’t have any’’, look at the following actions that can become bad habits. They may surprise you;

  • Comparing yourself to others. This leads to unnecessary competition with people. You don’t have to do what everyone is doing or start a business because a lot of people are doing it or study a course because it is popular. Rather try as much as possible to be independent in your thoughts and actions.
  • Getting easily offended. Lately it seems to me that we are becoming very sensitive. Taking offense at every little thing and also taking things personal. When you are corrected, you feel witch hunted or that the person has no right to correct you. Someone doesn’t text you back or send a birthday message and you take offense. You even allocate evil intentions to innocent actions. In the coming months, please learn to let things go. Offense just leads to bitterness, anger and a host of other negative emotions that take away from you and keep in you stagnant.
  • I’m guilty of this one. I would spend a lot of time thinking and thinking again about a decision or action or even something I wanted. I would worry about it, and think of the different ways it could go wrong or I could fail. This most times paralyzed me with fear such that I would refuse to take action or would end up missing the opportunity. Sometimes you think about things that are not even likely to happen. That mistake won’t cost you your job or career. Your eye itching doesn’t mean you have some form of illness. Don’t allow your fears to lead you to thinking and thinking about a problem. Relax and be calm. Worrying does more harm than good.

break bad, build good habits

  • Holding on to the past. This includes over analyzing past events and how things would have been better if only you did something differently. Always learn your lessons quickly and move on. Don’t get stuck in the past. Also please stop longing for the good old days; instead look for ways to make your present reality better. You have to let go of the past in order to perceive the new happening in your life and environment.
  • Know it all attitudes. This is a case of pride and “pride comes before a fall”. No matter how much you know, there’s still a lot you don’t know. So please be humble and always keep an open mind.
  • Negative words. Your words are powerful so handle them with care. Always speak positively.

So what habits do you wish to change in the coming months? Please let me know in the comments.

Happy New Month!!
