7 Important Tips for Marketing to Mothers

Hello. Hope you had a restful weekend and showered your mum with love. Yes oh! Mums are important; they provide the rightly needed balance to the family unit and in situations where the Fathers are absent, fill in for them. As an adult I appreciate more and more my Mum and everything thing she did for her family. She is a blessing and my number one fan. Thank God for Mothers.

So in the spirit of Mother’s Day, here are some tips on marketing to Mothers;

  • Give them a good deal. They cannot resist bargains and are quick to spot them and share the news with people.
  • Show her how your product or service will benefit her or her family. Be plain and simple in your language. Avoid unnecessary technical jargon
  • Give her samples. Give her some of your products to try for free. This is a very good way of getting her to become your customer and if she loves it, she will rave about it to people.
  • Make use of emotion in your advertising. Emotional elements like family connection, love, gifts etc can be used. This depends on the product or service you are selling and it should be consistent with your brand. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a campaign that will require a box of tissues at the end. You can use humor, it can be insightful, entertaining or for younger mothers, use a celebrity mom in your campaign. Whatever you do, what’s important is that it should be sincere. Mothers can smell insincerity a mile away
  • Simplify your service/product/business. Make her life easier. Don’t waste her time because she is very busy and juggling a lot of things at the same time. Eg If you know what she wants and can get it ready for her before she comes then please do that. Respect her time and be efficient.

  • Take advantage of her networks. Their word of mouth is very powerful. They love to talk about what they bought. Ask them for referrals or target their groups (social network groups, church groups etc). If they love your product or service, encourage them to share it.
  • Go social. A lot of mothers are on social media and use it to get information about products or services. A lot of mothers rely on recommendation from friends and family before buying a product or using a service. Find out where they mingle online and connect with them there.

Mothers make most of the buying decisions in the home as they not only buy for themselves but also for other people. Take advantage of these tips to boost your sales and add value to their lives.
