Failure – A Seed For Success

overcoming failureEver heard the expression “fall flat on your face”? It means to fail or make a mistake in an embarrassing way, something we have all experienced. We’ve faced challenges or obstacles and failed to overcome. It’s an experience that’s seen as negative, to be feared and avoided but it shouldn’t be so. We should see the experience as a seed.

Failure or falling flat is like a seed that falls to the ground. You are sowing that experience. When i was much younger, we owned a small corn farm and from observation, when a seed falls on good soil and is watered. It grows, call it a resurrection of sorts. Nature just takes it’s course although you have to do the following;

Prepare Yourself
For the seed to sprout, it has to fall on fertile soil. So you have to prepare the soil or ground for the seed. This good soil can be likened to our character or behavior. Challenges will come so be aware and prepare yourself for them. Build yourself up before challenges hit. Start working on yourself. Work on your resilience, emotional state, discipline and faith so that when the time comes, you can overcome failure. Cultivate great relationships so that you have people to talk to, encourage and support you when you are down. They could be family members, friends, colleagues etc.If there’s one thing i’m grateful to God for, it’s my family for they are a huge support to me especially when i’m down.

Water The Seed
Here you have failed or fallen flat on your face. Now you have been planted. Water the seed(experience) by maintaining a thankful and positive attitude and walking in love. Be helpful to people without expecting anything back from them. I’ve experienced failure and honestly it hurts, you tend to feel stupid, unwanted, untalented, irresponsible. It’s human but don’t stay there. Don’t give in to complaining, grumbling and negative talk. Count your blessings. How you behave during this period is key in determining if you will sprout.

The Waiting Period
In this digital age where we want everything done quickly, it has become normal to hate waiting but i have discovered that it’s necessary to our personal growth. While waiting, examine the experience and look for opportunities in it. Find out why you failed and what you can do so you don’t repeat it. Search out people(online or otherwise) who have gone through what you are going through and came out successfully. Study, be inspired and learn from their experiences. Another tip meditate on and speak God’s word. Decide that this will not break you and look forward to getting back on your feet. An opportunity you never thought of will spring forth from that failure or mistake.

Every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success (Napoleon Hill)
