Keeping Life’s Beautiful Memories

remember special moments in life I love pictures because they capture moments, recording and preserving them not only for the person who took them but for others too. Pictures are a way for me to carry memories and feelings about different experiences and events in my life or that of others. Whether they are pictures of recent events, accomplishments, difficult times, acquaintances, friends, loved ones or even random funny or inspirational pictures. Recently while going through my photo album, I came across a picture of me with my whole family taken two years ago at Christmas in Jos. A holiday tradition in my family is “group cooking”, we all cook together in my Mom’s kitchen while gisting and teasing each other. Anyways looking at the picture of us preparing fruit salad in the kitchen transported me back to that moment and I smiled, remembering all the jokes and funny moments. Whenever I’m stressed, lonely, bored or need inspiration, I just bring out my pictures and look at them. Really the camera in my opinion is one of the most amazing inventions of man.

Our experiences both good and bad are stored in our brains like pictures in an album. You can chose the pictures you want to bring out and look at but often times we bring out the bad pictures. We usually remember what’s missing, the bad experiences, the failures, rejection, lack etc but you need to regularly remember the blessings, victories and good experiences.

You need to carry them around like pictures, bring them out regularly and think about them. Remember how that difficult situation was resolved, how you found a solution to that problem, how that unpleasant situation turned out well for you or the good things that came your way even when you when you weren’t expecting them. Remember how the difficult times made you stronger or prepared you for where you are right now. Looking at these pictures will encourage, energize and inspire you, a reminder of your blessings. Stop complaining and dwelling on the negative instead focus on the good and beautiful things of life. It seems difficult but all it takes is a conscious decision to think about the positive aspects of your experiences and God’s blessings. Life can and does get hard sometimes and it’s easy to forget, and we usually do, succumbing to grumbling, worry and despair. But it’s in those times we need to bring out those pictures (memories), look at them and remember how well those events finally turned out. You should use them as a reminder that your present condition is temporary, an opportunity for growth and one that will turn out for your good.

Even when things are going fine with you, still keep those pictures close to your heart and regularly look at them. Remember them and it will keep you humble, grateful and help to prevent you from becoming complacent. I have pictures(memories) of my own. Sometime ago I desperately needed money to pay for something very important but didn’t have the money for it. I was already at my wits end, worried I wouldn’t meet the deadline for payment. A few days to the deadline unexpectedly, I got money and happily paid for it. I remember that the very thing I was afraid for never happened because the deadline was extended for two weeks on the day it was to expire. Also the money to be paid was re-evaluated and reduced so even if I didn’t pay when I did, I still would have met the deadline and be able to pay. So either situation still worked out well for me. That is one of many pictures that I regularly bring out to remind myself that no matter what, whether good or bad, everything works out for my good.

What pictures do you carry around? Please share in the comments.
