Knowing Your Customers and How They See You

It’s important to find out how customers see you and your product/service. This is because the way you see your product/ service may be different from that of your customers and their perception of your business is very important. If their perception is negative or customers feel they are not getting value for their money, you will lose them.

So ask yourself, how do customers perceive me? Is it positive, negative or neutral? Is their perception different from the way I have positioned my product/service? Is their perception something I want and if not, how can it be changed to something I want?

Also observe how customers react to and handle your product/service. You may be surprised at what you will learn in terms of what interests or confuses them about your product/service. Other questions you can ask yourself include what does my product/service do for my customer? How does it make them feel? How do they use it?

Evaluating how customers see your product is an ongoing process. It’s not something you do once and for all.
