Market Your Company Through Your Employees

SuccessIn most companies, marketing is handled by a department or an individual. This shouldn’t be so. Marketing shouldn’t just be relegated to a department or an individual. All your employees need to understand that marketing is also part of their job no matter what they do, and especially if they regularly come into contact with customers. Really, more than half of employees in a company perform a marketing function whether they realize it or not.

Ask your average employee who the company’s target market is or what the company values are, and they have no idea. This is why giving your employees marketing training is essential to the success of your business. It adds value to both the employee and the company. If you own/run a business, give all your employees marketing training. This training should start when you hire new employees and be ongoing.

Marketing training is essential so that employees represent your company positively, accurately and consistently. To paraphrase Richard Cordock, “every employee must understand who you are as a company and what you stand for. They must be true to your brand values and be able to passionately explain them to prospects and customers.”

Train your employees on the kind of customer you would love to attract or serve (target customer), the problems your product/service solves, what makes your company unique or what makes yours a better option compared to other companies. Teach them about your brand, the color, font, images and what they represent. Make sure your staff can talk about your current promotions and what is presently going on with your business.

Train them to present a positive image both inside and outside the company. Show them how their activities affects public perception of the company and it’s success. For example if the accounting staff incorrectly bills a customer or a product is not delivered on time, the result is a bad experience for the customer which can affect if he/she returns or recommends your company to others. A lot of companies have lost customers because of the way employees treated them or responded to their complaints.

So give your employees the necessary marketing training. Don’t allow someone destroy a business you’ve put in time, money and effort to build.
