Never Loose Focus- 9 Helpful Tips to Stay On Track

Magnifying Glass On Wooden BackgroundFocus is very important in life. It is instrumental in accomplishing our goals or simply getting things done. Game of Thrones, currently one of my favorite television series holds a lesson about focus. An episode in season four titled The Mountain and the Viper shows the cost of losing focus. It centers on a fight between the average-size Prince Oberyn and his giant-like opponent Ser Gregor. Despite the fact that Prince Oberyn is much smaller than his opponent, he still manages to outmaneuver Ser Gregor. Unfortunately, due to a brief lapse in focus, Ser Gregor seizes the moment and smashes the prince’s head, ending his life. It was a very messy and brutal scene. I didn’t like it one bit because I was rooting for the Prince but he got too talkative and lost the fight. Anyways the point I’m trying to make is losing focus in life or business can cost you, maybe not your life (God forbid) but other important things. So always stay alert and focused.

How?

Try the following tips;

  • Find out why you do the things you do. Is it for money, to please family/friends etc? You can’t focus unless you know exactly why you do what you do. Sometimes you may just be living out another’s person’s dream or you gave yourself a goal because of something someone said (eg someone said to your face that you won’t amount to anything, so all what you are doing now is to prove the person wrong). Do things because you want to follow God’s will and add value to your environment.
  • Focus on the right things. Put things in the right perspective. Ask yourself, which comes first, is it my relationships, my health, faith or my work? Prioritize and practice balance in your life.

I focus on what matters

  • Don’t be complacent. Always look out for ways to improve your life, relationships, job, business, ideas etc. Regularly look for ways to add value.
  • Manage distractions. Allocate time for things that can distract you such as social media, gisting with people, going to get something to eat etc. So it doesn’t take your attention from what you need to do during the day.
  • Get rid of inner distractions such as doubt, fear and over thinking.
  • Don’t be proud. It blinds you to areas you can improve upon or a weakness you need to strengthen. The bible says that “pride comes before a fall” and I agree.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Avoid delaying any tasks.
  • Delegate the little things. Delegating is not for you to relax but so you can have the time to do the things you really need and are supposed to do. Ask for help on those things and trust/allow people to do it.
  • Ask for advice when you need it.
