How To Prepare Your Marketing For 2018

Understanding your customer2017 is slowly coming to an end. How do you want 2018 to look like for your business? If you want to attract more of the right customers in 2018 then you need to start preparing for it now. You need to start preparing your marketing for 2018.

So if you haven’t started preparing your marketing for 2018 then it’s time to get started on it. So after you finish reading this I suggest you clear your schedule.

Focus on creating a plan for a more successful year for your business with the following pointers;

1. EVALUATE YOUR MARKETING EFFORTS THIS YEAR

Access what worked for you this year and what hasn’t. Why did it work/or didn’t work? What can you do to improve in 2018? The outcomes of your findings will help you plan what you need to look at for your marketing next year.

Most importantly how did you get visibility for your services? Was it through Ads (broadcast, print or online), social media, events or exhibitions etc? Where did your revenue come from in 2017? Was it from your existing clients, new clients (acquisition) or referrals?

Also do a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats ) Assessment to provide a general overview of your marketing program.

You can start by answering these questions and brainstorming any additional points you might include.

Strengths – What does your business have going for it? Is it;

  • Good location for your industry?
  • High-level of expertise in your industry?
  • High quality services?
  • Or a well-defined brand that sets you apart from your competitors?

Weaknesses – What’s holding your business back?

  • Is the location working against you?
  • Do key members of your team lack experience in certain aspects of your industry?
  • Poor service quality? Or a
  • Poor branding

Opportunities – Where can your business grow?

  • Where should you be based on what’s happening there?
  • Is there a market space that you can take advantage off,
  • Any new opportunities for growth?

Threats – What external factors hinder your growth? For example, are you clear on who your competitors are?

2.  AUDIT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES

Evaluate all your social media/digital channels. A Social media audit is designed to show you a clear view of your current social media standings and showcase areas where improvement can be made. 3. SET NEW OBJECTIVES

After you have evaluated what you’ve done, take the time to re-define your goals and objectives so you have a new target to work towards. Some objectives may carry over from the previous year and others may be new. What’s important here is that you write them down and make sure they are measurable? If you can’t measure your goals you won’t know whether all your efforts are paying off.

4. PUT A STRATEGY & PLAN IN PLACE

A marketing strategy is simply the series of actions that will help you accomplish your goals. These series of actions or action plan will help you focus your marketing efforts, determine if you are going off track and what you need to do to achieve your business goals.

It doesn’t have to be a complex strategy, Craft your own marketing strategy in 8 simple steps with this Free Guide.

5. START PLANNING & WRITING CONTENT

Start crafting content for at least 2 months this December. Planning and scheduling your content in advance gives you time to adequately research and create content that ‘ll attract your target audience. It also helps you to be consistent and organized so you don’t end up struggling to find content to share.

6. AVOID COMMON MARKETING MISTAKES

Effective marketing can be tricky and there is no one size fits all strategy but you have a better chance of succeeding if the following common mistakes are avoided;

  • Assuming everyone is your target market or audience.You need to be specific about which segment of the population you need and should target. Also don’t feel that you’re missing out on people not in your target market cause by focusing on a particular group, you’re able to serve them better.
  • Not knowing your customer.Find out your customers wants, needs, preferences, values and dislikes. Learn from it and structure your product/service to meets their needs.
  • Not differentiating your product/service from the competition.If you don’t differentiate your product/service, it won’t stand out. So find out what makes you unique and better than the competition and effectively communicate it to your target market.

As you can see, there is a lot of work to get done to make sure your marketing in 2018 is successful. If you wait until January to start planning, it will be February at the earliest before you’ll be able to start which will in turn delay when you can start seeing results from your activities. So get up and start planning now if you haven’t started already and if you need help let me know.

Please note – In 2018 don’t be complacent, even if you think you’re achieving your sales goals. Keep looking for ways to add value to your customers and increase your sales in the process.
