Reactivating Your Dormant Customers! 8 Tips That Really Work

Customers

It is much easier to keep customers than to win new ones. A true saying which a lot of businesses take for granted. Very often we get engrossed in getting new customers that we forget and ignore our current customers. So while you are focused on winning new business, your current customers fade into the background, becoming easy targets to be wooed away by the competition. This may be why you have a lot of dormant customers. Another reason may be that customers just developed apathy for your business or brand.

The Good News

If someone has bought from you in the past then it’s easy to reactivate that person. He/she loved something about your business that made him/her patronize you in the first place. Even if the sale was closed a long time ago, they are still more likely to respond to you now than new prospects. So don’t give them up to your competition. Try to reactive them or win them back. Not only will they start patronizing you but you can use them to win new customers (referrals).

How Can You Get Your Dormant Customers To Start Buying From You Again?

Here are 8 easy to implement tips;

  1. Bring out the information you have about your customers – their names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, when they last bought from you etc. One reason for you to keep information about your customers. It’s very important
  2. Contact them and find out why they have gone silent or no longer patronize your business. It’s much more effective if you can contact them in person or by telephone. This is because you can immediately respond to what they say or their body language, but if that’s not possible, emails, text messages, online surveys will do.
  3. When you contact them, be direct and ask why they no longer buy from you. Is it because of a bad experience, the price etc? Also ask them what you could do better, how you might better meet their needs, etc.
  4. Take the feedback seriously and make adjustments where possible. If you need to apologize for a bad service/product, do so. Reassure them that you will work on what they are telling you. It may surprise you how much they will appreciate the gesture.
  5. Give them incentives to come back, such as extra discounts, cash incentives, free gifts, personalized service. This is because customers require more than words to resume doing business with you. Make whatever your offering valuable to your customers. It should also stand out from what your competition is offering. Eg you can offer 4% discount if your competition is offering 2%.
  6. If your customers stopped because they were not satisfied with your product/service after using it, then you need to reassure them. Tell them, or even better show them what they stand to gain by doing business with you. Don’t forget to use testimonials of your active customers.
  7. Engage them on social media. Identify the social platforms they use and connect with them. On these platforms offer content, news, testimonials of satisfied customers, special offers and promotions that will be useful to them. Your customers are on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, various blogs etc. Meet them there. If you need help on that, click here
  8. Be persistent in your efforts but don’t become a pest. Strike a balance. Also prevention they say is better than a cure. So please put in place a customer care program that will keep customers from becoming dormant.
