The Power of Selling Your Business With Stories

InspirationIf you were shown two bracelets that look the same but was told that one belonged to Princess Diana. Which one would you be willing to pay more money for? Like most people you would be willing to pay more for the bracelet that was said to belong to Princess Diana. What made one bracelet more valuable than the other, considering that they are the same and perform the same function? The answer is what the object represents in your mind.

This shows the influence stories have on perceived value of products/services. Something we don’t utilize when promoting our ideas or products. It is what makes one object more valuable than the other. We are more willing to pay more for products/services that have a background story we connect to or love. It also helps in convincing us to buy the product. Majority of beggars use stories to persuade us to give to them.

Selling with stories is about creating relatable content while being truthful and realistic. It is a powerful tool for your business. If you are going to effectively promote and grow your business, you need to use more stories.

So Ask Yourself These Questions

What is unique about my business?

How does the uniqueness benefit my customers?

Is there anything interesting about how my business was established?

Is there anything interesting about me, the founder?

What problem is my product/service trying to solve?

What inspired my business?

What is it about my business that I consider normal but others think it’s cool?

Now use the answers to tell stories. Try as much as possible to include the stories in your promotional efforts. It adds value to the product. Did it take twelve hours to make that beautiful necklace or the details on a dress? Say it. Use it to show the product is of great value because you pay attention to details. If a percentage of profits goes to a charity or will be given to help promote cancer awareness, mention it.

You can also share a before & after story. This type of story is very effective. Here you share your before and after, or even better, that of your customers to showcase the results of using your service/product.

Stories show the values of your brand. So try it, start showing how valuable your brand is to your consumers through stories.
