THE PROBLEM WITH SHORTCUTS

Shortcuts. The lure of a quick and easy way to reach your goal is irresistible to a lot of us. It’s easy to get hooked on shortcuts, after all it helps you reach your goals faster which is great. But i have realized that in most cases taking a shortcut is not quicker, makes you lazy and susceptible to dupes.

shortcuts

I live in Lagos and traffic congestion is a pain i have to deal with almost on a daily basis. Sometimes the driver of the bus or taxi cab I’m in would take a shortcut in the hopes of not getting caught up in traffic, but we end up wasting more time than if we were patient in the first place.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am not against taking risks or change. If there‚Äôs a better way of doing something, go for it . But the mentality of always looking for the easy way doesn’t help us. Our society praises over night successes, get rich quick schemes and careers that seemingly have less difficulty. It looks down on anything that requires diligence and patience. We don’t want to sign up for anything that looks complicated and takes time.

This is bad because shortcuts can be counter productive. For example you look for and use “the fastest way to loose weight” instead of making lifestyle adjustments, only for you to end up getting all the weight back. Nothing worthwhile is easy. Success requires hardwork, commitment and dedication. It’s better to be diligent than to waste time looking for and taking shortcuts, only to discard them later because it didn’t live up to its hype. So stop jumping from one supposed shortcut to another and learn to enjoy the journey.
